- Brief Summary: From Candlewick Press-“Sam and Dave are on a mission. A mission to find something spectacular. So they dig a hole. And they keep digging. And they find . . . nothing. Yet the day turns out to be pretty spectacular after all. Attentive readers will be rewarded with a rare treasure in this witty story of looking for the extraordinary — and finding it in a manner you’d never expect.”
- Ideas for using this book in classroom or library – I did find this lesson plan from the blog Children’s Library Lady which includes discussion questions, activities and games.
- Whatever additional notes you’d like to add about this book and why you liked or didn’t like it – I do think Klassen is becoming one of my favorite illustrators. I loved the simple irony that is conveyed in the illustrations, like when Sam and Dave decide to switch their digging patterns but we the reader can see their is a huge diamond right below them. The humor is exaggerated when the dog can sense that there is something right beneath their feet, but Sam and Dave seem not to notice.
