  • Title: Hello Goodbye Dog
  • Author: Maria Gianferrari

  • Publication year: 2017
  • Brief Summary: From Amazon-“For Zara’s dog, Moose, nothing is more important than being with her favorite girl. So when Zara has to go to school, WHOOSH, Moose escapes and rushes to her side. Hello, Moose! Unfortunately, dogs aren’t allowed at school and Moose has to go back home. Goodbye, Moose. But Moose can’t be held back for long. Through a series of escalating escapes, this loyal dog always finds her way back to Zara, and with a little bit of training and one great idea, the two friends find a way to be together all day long.”
  • Ideas for using this book in classroom or library – I found this lesson plan on the blog Disability Equality Education that asks children to read the picture book and then a short article on a real life story of how a therapy dog helped a boy with epilepsy and then discuss.
  • Whatever additional notes you’d like to add about this book and why you liked or didn’t like it – I believe this book was mentioned in class as a book that simply shows Zara in her wheelchair but the story is not about Zara having to overcome obstacles or her life as a disabled person but a story simply about Zara and her life with her dog. I think the watercolor illustrations with the pale colors really adds to the playful nature of the book.
