• Title: Square
  • Author: Matt Barnett
  • Illustrator: Jon Klassen
  • Publisher: Candlewick Press
  • Publication year: 2018
  • Brief Summary: From Penguin Random House-“This book is about Square. Square spends every day taking blocks from a pile below the ground to a pile above the ground. This book is also about Square’s friend Circle. Circle thinks Square is an artistic genius. But is he really?”
  • Ideas for using this book in classroom or library – I found this interesting post on “The Classroom Bookshelf” which seems to be a blog from School Library Journal. This article goes in to different ways to discuss this book, and the others in Barnett and Klassen’s series.
  • Whatever additional notes you’d like to add about this book and why you liked or didn’t like it.– This is another great ironic piece. Klassen’s illustrations perfectly match the tone of Barnett’s text. I think the funniest illustration is the spread of Square standing in the rubble with the rain pouring down on him and his tools still extended by his sides.
